With the Chili Bowl and the 24 hour of Daytona complete, racing season has started and it is getting in full swing! This weekend the Mello Yellow NHRA series will be racing in Pomona. FS1 (Fox Sports) has some good coverage of the event. We have included the TV schedule from the NHRA website below.
The NHRA season will have some interesting stories developing throughout the year. A couple include changes at John Force Racing with the addition of a second Top Fuel team and only running two Funny Car teams with Courtney stepping away from racing. It will be interesting to see how Austin Prock does as a rookie with JFR. He has been waiting for an opportunity like this his whole life, and arguably you can’t really get a better team to start your Mello Yello NHRA career. There is a great article and rendering of his Top Fuel car over at NHRA.com, be sure to check it out!
One other thing I am excited about this weekend at Pomona is the 1955 Chevy Gasser grudge match between Mike Finnegan of Roadkill & Finnegan’s Garage Fame verses Jon Chase from Hoonigan. It is a best-of-three match directly following the Pro Stock qualifying on Friday around noon. We will post up the winner after the results are known.
So, if you are not in to NHRA, this weekend is a great time to tune and check it out. Even better, if you are nearby, go see it LIVE and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. We are hoping to go to the Nationals in Indianapolis this year to cover the event!
